Spatial and temporal variation in foraging of breeding red‐throated divers

چکیده

Differing environmental conditions can have profound effects on many behaviours in animals, especially where species large geographic ranges. Seasonal changes or progression through life history stages impose differential constraints, leading to behaviours. Furthermore, which show flexibility behaviours, may a higher capacity adapt anthropogenic-induced their environment. The red-throated diver (RTD) is an aquatic bird, that able forage both freshwater and marine environments, though little else known about its different conditions. Here, we use time-depth recorders saltwater immersion loggers examine the foraging behaviour of RTDs from three regions across northwest Europe. We found breeding season, birds two (Iceland Scotland) foraged environment, while Finland, predominantly freshwater. Most differences diving characteristics were at least partly explained by habitat. Additionally, time spent did not change dives generally became more pelagic less benthic over suggesting either switched prey followed vertical movements, rather than increasing effort. There was preference for daylight crepuscular hours, with stronger effect sites. Overall, provide first investigation RTD multiple demonstrate variation strategies this generalist predator, most likely due local

Temporal and spatial variation of the phytoplankton community in the Chahnime Reservoirs-Sistan

This study investigated seasonal changes in density and diversity of phytoplankton, chlorophyll a content, and some environmental characteristics in the Sistan region during 2014. Totally, we detected 28 genera that belonged to five groups of Chlorophyta (12 genera), Bacilloriophyta (7 genera), Cyanophyta (5 genera), Dinophyta (3 genera), and Euglenophyta (1 genus). We observed that Chlorophyta...

Spatial and temporal variation in pheromone composition of ant foraging trails

Many social insects use pheromones to communicate and coordinate their activities. Investigation of intraspecific differences in pheromone use is a new area of social insect research. For example, interindividual variation in alarm pheromone content has been found in physical castes of polymorphic ants. Many ant species use multiple trail pheromones. Here we present novel research into trail ph...

Optimal spatial and temporal measurement repetition for reducing environmental variation of berry traits in grape breeding

Environmental variance components were estimated for berry ripening time (BRT), berry weight (BW), soluble solids concentration (SSC), titratable acidity (TA), and deformation at the ®rst major peak (DFP) and maximum force (MF) in penetration tests of berry ̄esh in grapes (Vitis vinifera L. and V. labruscana Bailey). The variance among berries within clusters was largest among environmental var...
